This is a great book, but...

The pictures used in the kindle version are so low resolution that they are unviewable and unreadable. I'm only three chapters in, but I was compelled to write this review because a screenshot of an email was used as an example of an origin story, but I am unable to read the example. Kindle books are commonly read on high-res devices these days, and the images used in kindle books should be optimized for such devices.

I have to give the Kindle version one star because of this oversight, otherwise The User's Journey would be at least 4/5, maybe even 5/5 when I finish.

Awesome book. It provides three story frameworks to test your business and optimize for user experience and branding. At least that's what I took from it. I highly recommend this book to entrepreneurs, branding peeps, ux designers or copywriters.

This book is essential reading for anyone doing just about anything. There really is no downside to the book and I numerous applications for just about anyone doing anything. Consider the stay-at-home parent trying to create the right chore list for their children; this is the book. Yet it would also find application to the senior executive who needs to develop a new strategy. This book is well worth it.

Provides MEAN stack details, explanations and examples I have needed and wanted for a long time

I have built several MEAN stack applications using some of the popular prefabricated frameworks. And I have completed MEAN stack tutorials where the application is built from scratch, so to speak. I am pleased that "Getting MEAN with Mongo, Express, Angular, and Node" takes the latter approach. It starts with Express and Node and shows how to put together a basic static site that is pushed up to a web server. Then, you add a MongoDB database and create an application interface (API). Next, you work with AngularJS to deal with data manipulation and application logic in the browser. Finally, you bring in authentication, so you can register new users and log in returning users of the app you have built. It is both fun and very challenging to make all of these pieces come together correctly and fly.

Like the MEAN stack itself, this excellent how-to book is not suited for impatient people who want to leap right in and start coding. Indeed, you don't start coding in this book until page 53, after reading some important discussions of full-stack development and the MEAN stack architecture.

"Getting MEAN with Mongo, Express, Angular, and Node" provides details, explanations and examples I have needed and wanted for a long time, in one well-written, nicely illustrated volume. This book definitely will be my go-to reference guide as I build (and debug) new MEAN stack single-page applications.

Best books on Node but a lot of debugging...

I'm on chapter 10(out of 11 chapters) so I've worked on most of the book.

The book starts out great and has a very intuitive architecture for the projects. As progress further into the book, however, more things begin to not work either because the book uses an older version of a module(which I understand the author can't control after the book is released) or because the instructions in the book are just wrong or things are left out. As you get into the later chapters, there's a lot of debugging you need to do because of these mistakes. Thankfully the book has a git repo that you can clone and check the code with for every chapter.

Overall, this is a great book on learning Node but the mistakes that appear later were time consuming and annoying to fix. Hopefully the author will be releasing a second edition where these things will be fixed.

Interested in full-stack or Node/Angular Development? Buy this book!

I originally bought this text through the Manning early access program (MEAP) so I've been working through it for a couple of months now. By far, this text has been the best introductory text to full stack development that I have read. I felt that the author did an excellent job of maintaining focus on the entire MEAN stack and giving a complete overview of the functionality and power of each individual layer.

The book walks you through building a web application with the Express framework, adding database functionality using MongoDB and Mongoose, and developing an API for the web app. It culminates in transforming the entire app to an Angular single page application. Considering the quality and amount of material covered, I consider the book a bargain. I'd strongly recommend this text to developers new to any or all components in the MEAN stack.

Amazing!!!!

When I bought this book I automatically thought this is a lot to read, however the description sounded very interesting. Once I started to read it was very hard to stop and before I knew it I had read the whole book. This is a must for schools and colleges and your own personal use as well as your children. It's extremely informative and well written, your brain will be impact with so much knowledge!!!! I can't wait for part 2 and any books that the author Rick Duncan writes. Well Done!

STAFFORD CLIFF has both written and designed numerous style books, including Greek Style and Caribbean Style, and was a contributor to Terence Conran’s definitive home design guide, The House Book. Formerly the creative director of London’s Conran Design Group, one of the world’s first multidisciplinary design companies, he currently works as a freelance consultant and author. Stafford Cliff lives in London.

GILLES DE CHABANEIX has been one of France’s most prominent photographers of design and lifestyle for many years. His work has appeared in many books and in all of the leading style magazines, including Elle Decoration and Marie-Claire.

Great Research Book.

As an interior designer, I often start thinking about new spaces by doing research as to what other people have done in the past in similar situations...this is a great book to have in your library for that purpose. I've referenced it many times to show clients the sort of "mood" I'm looking to create before we sit down to hammer out the nuts and bolts of how that feeling translates into a different space with different furnishings and fabrics...this book won't teach you how to make curtains, but it is well worth the investment as exactly what it says it is..."a global design inspiration".

A Comprehensive and Sensitive Survey of Peoples and their Habitats

Stafford Cliff has collected images from all around the world and with the help of superb photographer Gilles de Chabaneix has done what few other innovators in design have done - created a book that is, yes, about design, but is equally about how climate, place, ethnicity, tradition, cultural philosophies, and history inform the decisions people make about their living environments.

Not just viewing the gracious homes of the wealthy of the planet (though there are plenty of gorgeous 'palaces' of design to please the most art hungry eye), Cliff views the differences geography makes in dwellings, from spectacular vistas of the sea to the mountains and to the deserts, and how the climates influence the manner in which 'design' is used. As interested in discussing and sharing the most humble abodes with the most lavish mansions, Cliff doesn't miss a beat as he and de Chabaneix journey to places obscure and places of notoriety. The emphasis is always on the manner in which the people of these dwellings adapt and incorporate their living spaces to their environment.

A book that is both sumptuous in design itself and tender in its approach, THE WAY WE LIVE will appeal to both students of design and to those who long to understand the essence of living, wherever they travel. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, December 05

Great book, lots of info as well as clinical correlations. Cant give it book 5 stars though becauce of the way it was shipped to me. Paid for a brand new book but recieved a damaged, crumpled copy. Very dissapointed in the seller.
