This book is for those of us on special diets that do not want 'special' books telling us what to eat, but neglecting to tell us what not to eat, or for those of us who just want to judge for ourselves what is good (or bad) for us. This book contains very complete information, including canned foods by brand, candy, gum, alcohol beverages, foods prepared in many ways, virtually any foods, even poi. The values listed include alcohol, calories, water, protein, carbohydrates, sugar, dietary fiber, fat, saturated fatty acids, monosaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, cholesterol, vitamins A(RE), A(IU), C, B-1, B-2, B-4, B-12, D, E, E (as alpha-tocopherol), K, niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid. Also sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, iron, copper. Amino acids, caffeine, gluten, iodine, pectin, phytosterol, purines, salicylates, selenium, theobromine. What more could the dietary conscious want?

Too many food guides for diabetics give food equivelants in volume (i.e. cups) measure. When comparing spaghetti to ziti or large cubes to small cubes, the amount contained by a cup varies significantly. Bowes & Church's, (the first book in which I found the nutritive values by weight) had lacked sugar and monounsatured fatty acids data. That deficiency is now corrected. Some food catagories have been expanded (i.e. Varieties of summer squash are now separately listed). This is definitely the best compendium of food nutrient content that I have found.

I purchased this book several years ago when I started counting carbohydrates. A nutritionist recommened it as being the most comprehensive resource of its kind. I have found it invaluable. The fact that is not only contains prepackaged food, but fresh foods, meats, homemade items and even some common restaurants (along with many many other catagories), makes it THE perfect resource.

I would recommend reading it with your casebook and not a week ...

The book is about 700 pages long and I have used it for two classes (Basic bankruptcy and Chpt 11 seminar). Nothing beats actually reading the code, but this helps give you a perspective on some of the cases that have influenced bankruptcy law. I would recommend reading it with your casebook and not a week before the exam. The "Understanding" series in general is only good for classes that cases are very important for (property, income tax, contracts) and are good supplements for courses that cases don't really matter that much (Payment systems, Secured Transactions, etc.). Bankruptcy is in between since there are several cases that have shaped Bankruptcy law. Also check out the Glannon Guide to Bankruptcy.

The plain English explanations help all that material absorb faster. So, if you need to get the big picture on how chapter 7 works, preferences, etc then that chapter should give you the primer you need. The citations are great for attorneys who want to see the underlying statute or what case changed that part of the law. New issue you haven't seen before, then the book may give you a starting point and cite to where in the statute the answer is, or a case you can look up to see if your circuit has treated it.

Lastly, for the digital copy, searchable saves time.

About the Author

Ioannis Marathakis (Athens, Greece) was born in Greece. He studied Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, attending classes concerning the history of religion, history of philosophy, ancient Greek, Latin and Hebrew language, as well as Byzantine literature and palaeography. He is the author of a history of Solomonic literature, Anazetontas ten Kleida tou Solomonta (Searching for the Key of Solomon, 2007).

Seminal text for The Key of Solomon

"The Magical Treatise of Solomon or Hygromanteia" survives mainly in fragments in Greek scattered through a variety of manuscripts dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries, although the original work was probably composed during Byzantine times. It presents a fusion of magical techniques which include astrological elections, the use of specula and the first documented use of the Black Hilted Knife and the Circle of Art. Like the similar "Testament of Solomon" which it partly resembles, it relies mostly on the summoning and control of demons by angels. In the past available chiefly in the difficult to obtain French and Greek texts of Armand Delatte, the full Greek original of what may well have been the ur-text of "The Key of Solomon" is here presented in English for the first time. In his careful translation and presentation of all fifteen of these manuscripts in their correct order Marathakis has produced a scholarly work containing all the relevant material within the covers of a single handsome volume. It should be valued as highly by the historian of magic as it definitely will be by the practising mage. An assured five stars.

The most important forgotton grimoire

This is not another edition of the Lemegeton or Key of Solomon, this is their predecessor, The Magical Treatise of Solomon. Mr. Marathakis gives 12 versions of the Magical Treatise and tons of background information and explanatory notes. Stephen Skinner's forward is quite thorough and creates the setting for the main text. Plenty of tables comparing the angels, planets, etc. in the different texts. There is an illustration mentioned on page 120 that is missing from my edition, but Mr. Marathakis has graciously provided it on the "The Magical Treatise of Solomon or Hygromanteia" Facebook page. I cannot express in words how well researched this book is; The Magical Treatise of Solomon is definitely my favorite of the Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic Series!

Too important to bypass!

The Magical Treatise of Solomon or Hyrgromanteia is Vol VIII of the `Sourceworks of Ceremonial magic Series` and is a worthy edition to an already superb set of books. What we have here is the ur-text to the `Key of Solomon` a book which has influenced Ceremonial Magic in Europe and the US more than any other book for hundreds of years. The Magical Treatise will give you so much connecting information on the Western Mystery Tradition that its almost impossible to bypass. So many obscure things in Ceremonial Magic will come to light and you will also be able to understand grimoire magic at a much greater depth. Quoted from the Forward by Stephen Skinner in The Magical Treatise: The Treatise is the origin of the names of the chief demons that can be found in the Grimorium Verum, Grand Grimoire, UTF version of the `Key`, and also in Abramelin, in fact without it the hierarchy of the spirits of the Goetia makes no sense. The placing of beans in the mouth for the operation of invisibility in the Grimorium Verum is also clarified in the Treatise. In all, the Magical Treatise is the source of very many of the traditions of European ritual magic.(end quote) The Treatise is full of eye openers and is truly a most important book. Its the first time the full Greek original of the `Key of Solomon` appears in English. Stephen Skinner and Ioannis Marathakis have done a great job in putting the Treatise back in order just as it was meant to be and have taken it from the shadows into the light of day. This is a beautiful book that is well written and easy to understand with a hefty 376 pages including 57 illustrations many in colour. This grimoire deserves its place in history and I cant see anyone being disappointed in it, this was an important buy for me and i`m glad I did.

Good Reference Handbook for Fan Engineering

As a new engineer in the industrial fan industry, I found this book informative and a good buy. If you can look past the awful conversions from F to Kelvin (Somehow he uses K = F + 460, when in reality it is K = C + 273.15). I trust the rest of the book and I would recommend for anyone in the fan industry (Sales, engineer, marketing, etc.).

Not bad, but not over the fence, either.

As a basic primer on fan concepts, this is a good book. It also serves as a sort of non-engineer's guide to fan design and allows someone with very little knowledge or experience create a fan design of some reasonable worth.
Unfortunately, I was looking for a bit more of an in depth aerodynamic study and have yet to find a piece of literature that I like. I understand that many of the older books on cascade aerodynamics are quite good, but they are no longer in publication, and this didn't really satisfy my interests.
Particularly annoying to me is the lack of derivation of the methodology in the fan design section. Some basic magic formulas are given and then tied together with some basic velocity diagrams to yield a fan blade design methodology.

Great book with excellent explanations. Covers fan selection and fan design. In depth explanation of fan laws and application of the fan laws. Seems that Bleier's experience is primarily in centrifugal blowers, but does cover some axial fans.

This was a life altering book for me

I starting reading this book thinking I was not in denial, but I wanted to see what it had to say. I did the exercises even if I didn't see the point. Well I found out although I had not blanked out any memories, I had repainted some seemingly small details that made a huge difference when I saw them for what they are. This book has helped me to start working on things that I really didn't know were a problem, and it has brought significant change into my life.

For the first time I can remember in my 38 years, I have a sense of peace and I am starting to feel comfortable in my own skin, which is something I didn't think was possible. I still have a long way to go on the road I am on, but before this book I didn't even know the road was there.

This book takes you through the steps to dig into what things have caused you pain and see them for what they are. Then it gives you the steps to overcome the limits you placed on yourself due to what you have uncovered. This is not a feel good cover up, this is the real thing that will help deep within yourself. It isn't always easy, but it is absolutely worth it.

Edit July 2012 to say: Dr. Ablow seems to have aligned himself with a political side since this book came out and that may scare some people off. I didn't want that to stop anyone from getting this book, because I really think it can help so many people. This book came out when he was politically neutral so there is nothing political in it, and it is still great at helping someone uncover what hurt them and the behaviours that are not in their own best interests.

I wrote my first review on the book about 5 years ago and after reading it I am reminded how far I have come. I really thought I was pretty much together when I picked up this book. I have an interest in Psychology, so I was reading it for that mostly. Sure I had an awful childhood, but who didn't. I had mostly sorted that out long ago. What's one little abandonment issue when you are in a good marriage? It's nothing! Well I found out I was wrong after I started working through this book! I had a lot more going on than I thought. The changes for me have been mostly internal. I let go of a lot of anger I didn't even know I had, and I did a lot of forgiving, something I was never good at. It's a process to this day, I still have issues with self esteem, that is such a complex issue for me...but I feel so much better than I did before. When you are working through Living the Truth, you have to be honest with yourself and be willing to write out past events when you were hurt by someone.

I will say it again after all these years... This is not an easy book to work through, it is not a quick fix, feel good quick, fade away fast answer. This will actually help you make your life better, it isn't going to be easy, you have to do the exercises but if you do, it will pay off.

From pain to power

Dr. Keith Ablow's tome, "Living the Truth," isn't just another self-help book. It breaks new ground, offers new assumptions, and for many of those who will read it and listen to its voice, there is hope for a better future. The truth can often be a terrible weapon of aggression. Ablow's book, with the center of his thinking bound to the idea that no one has a perfect life, that you must face your conflicts head on, that everyone living on this earth is experiencing one form of pain or another, is a guide to gaining insight in the understanding that gaining insight puts us on the road to where we want to be. Everything about Ablow's own experience as a vulnerable human being has contributed to his belief about life. He isn't the psychiatrist as God or Nitzche. He lives the truth as he has come to know it, as he believes others might benefit from it. He shows you the way. Ablow's premises are free of politics and cheap philosophy. He goes to the center, to the pain we feel, to the regrets that hound us, to the inadequacies we try to hide. Ablow is the ultimate psychiatrist. He is the ultimate humanist. Living the Truth can be a road map to a life without pain. It won't be a road map to a perfect life because there is no such thing as a perfect life.Ablow helps us to come as close as we can to mastering our psychic existence in this vexing thing we call our lives.

I found the book very helpful in getting to source of unresolved unconscious conflicts of the past. In uncovering what he calls our life story clues... Dr. Ablow is able to (with the help of the work book) take the reader to the past and then begin to understand the mystery of why we behave the way we do now. It help me to stop running and look directly at the Truth the life story clues unmasked and then discover the personal freedom that take place. It's what we truly desire.
