best book ever

I would say in all Suicide Notes by Tim Larock is one of my all time favorite books, yet in the lead for the saddest books ive ever read. The title itself has everything to do within the book. The story starts out by introducing the 16 year old main character named Jeff and he is about to experience one of the many horrific things in his life. It starts out by introducing Jeff as the back-up child that his parents had because his older brother Robert died when he was only three months old, for his parents to cope with that they decided to have a second son. Jeff's parents were on pilot mode his whole life, They made sure he ate and had good grades but that was it. His parents end up killing themselves, one by car crash and one by gun because of the grief left behind from the passing of Robert. Jeff is left behind to live by himself and get through college with his best friend ryan. Ryan never really had his life on track because of how he grew up. Ryan ends up committing suicide because of his depression, Which leads me into the part of the book that never left my head once I was done reading it. This scene was one of the saddest moments that made me cry for about three hours yet it was the most descriptive part in the book. Ryan ends up on the top of his car in the middle of the train trach that him and Jeff hanged out around since they were kids.(here comes the sad part) when the train is about a mile away from hitting ryan Jeff shows up just in time to witness everything happen. At that moment Jeffs life comes crashing down, Ryan is not right alongside Jeffs mom and dad. Out of grief Jeff decides that he doesn't want to do this anymore and attempts to commit suicide.(here comes the turning point) Jeff's attempt goes to the wind and he is still alive, this is when he realizes and discovers that he still has hope. He choses to fight to be happy and not forget but move on and live a normal life. Jeff ends up building a family with a beautiful wife and a son named Robert II after his older brother Robert. I don't want to give away the ending but I will say the book was well worth reading because of the ending. Which made this book the only one that I would read over and over again because the book captures you and makes you experience 2000 emotions at once. For me I would rate this book 1-5 a 5 out of five. For some people they could never handle a book like “Suicide Notes” because of the emotions and things that go on in this book. But for people that like very realistic and moderately sad book this would be a great choice. especially because there is a good ending that will make it worth reading the book.

Yeah I would consider recommending this book. It was a short book. Suicide is so final. Jeff should 've went to counseling.

Average Quality

This book is a quick and interesting read. It was amazing how one person could endure so many unfortunate events in a short lifespan. However, the storyline is simple without inquisitive insight.

French filmmaker Truffaut was captivated by the secrets of silent filmmaking, the ability to convey visceral emotions on film. Gillain explores Truffaut’s search for that secret as well as the more personal secret that eluded him, the ways his own films revealed his subconscious desires. Gillain was before her time when she wrote this psychobiography more than 20 years ago, examining how Truffaut’s childhood memories of abandonment inspired a succession of motifs in his films focused on distant mother figures for whom the characters search. Truffaut’s motto, that films were “ivory eggs” to be viewed but not broken into, reflected his sense that understanding interfered with the creative process. Gillain examines Truffaut’s works in pairs, contrasting their motifs with unconscious efforts to work out conflicts in his life, from his troubled childhood to his affair with actress Catherine Deneuve. Anne Gillain is Professor Emerita at Wellesley College and is known for her work in French cinema, particularly the films of Fran�ois Truffaut. She is author of Le Cin�ma selon Fran�ois Truffaut and The 400 Blows.

Alistair Fox is Professor of English and Director of the Centre for Research on National Identity at the University of Otago. He is author of Jane Campion: Authorship and Personal Cinema (IUP, 2011).

Wonderful book on a great subject

I love this book, and it has prompted me to study more of Truffaut's films. It is an excellent survey of Truffaut's films, but has been criticized for its psychoanalytical notions. I don't find these to be excessive or inappropriate, even though I consider psychoanalysis to be passe. Psychological theory is essentially handicapped by the disparity between interesting questions and methodloogy that cannot reach those interesting questions while standing on scientific foundations, and psychoanalysis wasn't satisfied only to tiptoe above those foundations. Gillain's basic analysis of Truffaut is plausible enough to me. Further, Truffaut refers to psychoanalysis in his interview of Hitchcock. Psychoanalytic theory (e.g. Norman Brown's "Life Against Death") was popular when Truffaut made his films. Gillain's analysis shows interesting relationships among the themes in many of Truffaut's films. I watched "The Wild Child" after reading about it in her book. This film, with a rather scientific attitude derived from Dr. Itard's book, "Victor of Aveyron," has none of the sexual intrigue found in Truffaut's best films, but those who know him as the author of "The 400 Blows" can appreciate the richness of his performance as the often puzzled Dr. Itard, since he was himself a wild child before he became a film maker. This perception alone would make Gillain's book worth reading. Her style is lively and consistently interesting, and she has much to say. Truffaut liked talking with her, and I recommend her book highly.
